Bargain guide, week beginning December 28th

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday week! From Fooducate: after a decade of promoting “better-for-you” versions of their products, PepsiCo have announced an intent of focusing again on their “indulgent core businesses” – sodas and salty crunchy things, without a pretense that they're healthy. Chow.com has a video from Poppy Tooker (Louisiana Eats) on how to make “the perfect Jell-O shot”. Everyone else seems to be on vacation, nor can I blame them.

Biggest promotions this week are for party foods, no surprise, but we're also seeing a hint of next week's inevitable cascade of New Year's Resolution healthy-and-weight-loss promos, so this may be a good couple of weeks to stock up.

Today's National Chocolate Day! The day after tomorrow, the 30th, is National Bicarbonate of Soda Day, which seems to be anticipating need by about two days. The 31st, of course, is National Champagne Day. January 1st is Apple Gifting Day, a nice healthy way to start the year, and the 4th is National Spaghetti Day.
