Bargain guide, week beginning December 8th

It’s the second week of December, which is National Lager Week, and the 10th – this Friday – is National Lager Day. Sunday, the 12th, is National Cocoa Day: Swiss Miss “Sensible Sweets” (the one labeled “Diet”) still has a PointsPlus count of 1 for one packet, 1 for two packets! And each packet still counts as a glass of milk. So have two.

The 13th is Ice Cream and Violins Day. This is another of those holidays that fall under the category of “ ... and no one knows why.” The day after is National Bouillabaisse Day: my preferred bouillabaisse recipe is the almost artistically imprecise one in Euell Gibbons’s Stalking the Blue-Eyed Scallop, the one that begins “3 pounds white-meated fish, 3 cups crustacean shellfish meat, 3 dozen molluscan shellfish … ”
